Clean Tacos

I know what you’re thinking. Tacos? But seriously, in my journey towards eating clean and healthy, I have leaned that making and eating ONLY REAL FOOD is key. Using real ingredients in things like condiments, dressings and seasoning mixes go a long way to creating a healthy meal. If you can’t pronounce the ingredient, 90% of the time, it isn’t good for you and it probably isn’t REAL food.

So, here is how I tackle a family favorite.

Clean Tacos

  • 2 TBS of chili powder
  • 1 ½ TBS of cumin
  • 1 ½ TBS of paprika
  • 1 TBS of onion powder
  • 1 TBS of garlic powder
  • 2 tsp of oregano
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ½ tsp of chipotle chili pepper
  • 1 tsp of sea salt
  • 1 tsp white pepper

Mix or shake the above in a bowl or container. Combine about 2 TBS of seasoning to 1 lb of grass-fed beef and about ¼ cup of water. Simmer for about 5 minutes. We also add this to cut chicken breast and fresh red peppers to add variety. If you use oil when cooking your meat, make sure to NOT to use vegetable oil. Store the remaining seasoning mix for future use. I usually multiply this recipe and make a huge batch.

Take your health a step further and skip out on the “taco sauce” and make some fresh salsa, guacamole and Tabasco Sauce (which is made of 100% natural ingredients). Don’t forget your organic taco shells, or use large lettuce leaves to substitute for the traditional shells. I normally don’t eat corn, but I compromise on this one for the kids. Just make sure NOT to use shells or tortillas made with refined flours or gluten. Finally, top it off with some shredded grass-fed cheese if you eat dairy (I’ll explain why “Grass Fed“ is so important in one of my future blog posts). ENJOY!
