Primal Rub

There are many dry rubs out on the market. Many are full of extra junk and a waste of money (you usually are just buying a brand name). A rub may seem like a mysterious secret, but in reality, it’s simply a way of adding extra flavor before you grill in order to enhance your meat. It’s healthier and simple to make your own with your favorite spices and seasonings. Plus, if you are trying to eat clean, it’s way safer. Here is my favorite rub mix.

Primal Rub

  • 4 TBS smoked paprika
  • 2 TBS Himalayan sea salt (the pink stuff; it has less sodium)
  • 2 TBS chili powder
  • 2 TBS ground cumin
  • 1 TBS ground black pepper
  • 1 TBS dried oregano
  • 1 TBS ground white pepper
  • 2 tsp red chipotle pepper
  • 1 TBS garlic powder

Add the above ingredients together and generously apply to your favorite meat. Make sure to cover your meat entirely and massage into all those cracks and crevices. I like to use this one on ribs. I also like to rub my meat the night before and wrap it in saran wrap overnight and place it in the fridge. I make a large batch of this rub and store it with my other homemade seasonings.
